Check Out My New Layout!

Loving the new layout that I got for free at suckmylolly.com . This is much prettier than my last sort of blah layout... This one will (hopefully) not be up for very long though. As much as I like it, I'm on the waiting list w/ a web design firm that will also make a custom logo for me. I'm very excited about it...

Luv, Luv, Luv: InStyle, October 2008

5 Reasons why you must check out the October issue of InStyle:

Pictured above: Tashkent by Cheyenne fur-lined flats, p.321

  • "What's Now!" (p.125) takes a look at Kate Moss's Topshop collection. I wish we had Topshop in my neck of the woods!!
  • "Shop It!" (p.321): I love the ballet flats from the page I scanned above. I especially love the navy blue ones. They are fur-lined and gorgeous!!
  • "Business Plan: Rain wear" (p.248) has a wonderful patent leather DKNY coat(see picture below) that I am coveting big time!
  • "Beauty" (p.259) displays a beautiful collection of feathered hair accessories. It makes me wish I had long hair again. Sigh...
  • "Inside Christian Louboutin's Castle" (p.394): Yes, the man lives in a castle. Not only are his shoes to die for, but so is his humble (cough, nudge, wink) abode!

Focus on the super fierce patent leather coat with all the arrows that I added pointing to it.

Fell in Love With a Bag...

The beautiful Chanel Veau Velours Clutch
or as I like to call it "My White Whale"

Tonight, I finally got a chance to watch the Sex & the City movie. Of course, I loved it! Even though the plot was a little lacking, the clothes and accessories made up for it. During the movie I noticed they threw a shameless plug out to bagborroworsteal.com . This piqued my interest. I have of course heard of the site before, but I had never dared to view it. The whole idea of renting a purse is a little too Rent-A-Center for me, but I thought if it's good enough to get a plug in Sex & the City... So, I went on the site, and lo and behold I found the above pictured purse!

Anyone, who knows me at all, can tell you that I have a thing for Union Jacks. I love all things British, there is a huge Union Jack hanging on the wall in my son's nursery, England was one of the stops on my honeymoon, I love the Victorian poets, and I am a Shakespeare freak. On top of all that, I named my son British. So, when I saw this little number on that site, I had to catch my breath! I thought, "I just have to have it"! But, alas, there is a wait list on Bag, Borrow, or Steal for this bag. Also, I cannot find it online. Not that I would buy it right away. But a girl can dream...Sigh. So for now, I'm just going to stare at the picture of that fab piece of couture. Hell, I may have it printed out and framed, because that's as close as I'm going to get to it. For now...

A Fun Night and A Great Day!

Hubby and I (in photo at left before the fundraiser we attended last night) had an awesome time last night. We got to see our good friends and lots of old friends that we hadn't seen in what seems like forever. We danced (that's a sight!), ate lots of good food, drank too much, and even won a couple of items in the silent auction!

But as much fun as we had last night, I had a great time today hanging out with British and my sister-in-law Jenny. We had a late lunch at Al Fresco (see British in high chair at left). British loved trying to feed himself mac and cheese! Everything went fine until he decided to pretend his spoon was a phone. Mac and cheese got everywhere including in his ears. He even had to change clothes before we went to our next stop!

Our last stop of the afternoon was the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center to see the Bob the Builder show. Lynn Meadows is a wonderful children's museum in our area. British loves playing on all of the interactive exhibits inside (see British pretending to shovel coal at the train exhibit in photo at left). After we tooled around inside the museum for a while, we moved on to see the Bob the Builder show. British loved it! I was so happy that he liked it, because he is still so young. I am never sure of how he's going to react to things. But he clapped when Bob came out, and danced to the theme song. He said, "Hey Bob," in his sweet little baby voice. It was really cute. After that, he played outside until he tired me out... Now, hopefully, we can hang out in the sun room and watch TV (or tee dee as British calls it) until bed time!

Note to Self: Don't Drink and Bid

So far, I've had a busy past couple of weeks. Jam packed with social obligations and mucho personal business to attend to. For example , tonight I'm attending a fundraiser that I'm really excited about. I'll get to see friends I haven't hung around with in a couple of weeks, and there will be an awesome silent auction that benefits the school . I'll post more on that tomorrow. But, what I'm really looking forward to is getting to spend more time with Hubby and British (the little guy in photo at left) when we go on our Disney vaycay. I can't wait! It's coming up soon!!

Yuck!

Top half of page 36 of Marie Claire, October 2008
slightly altered (see yuck) and scanned into my computer.

Please focus your attention on the outfit I circled above. In my humble opinion, someone is asleep at the wheel at ol' Marie Claire. How on Earth did that monstrosity make it into 101 Ideas? That looks like if Melanie Griffith (circa Working Girl) and Michael Landon (circa Little House on the Prairie) had a very oddly dressed baby. The kicker is that this is a work wear to evening wear suggestion. I cannot imagine walking into a boardroom wearing that. Although, I would love to see someone pull it off. I think you'd have to go for the "ironic look." Maybe rock it w/ an asymmetrical, Flock of Seagulls-ish haircut and granny boots? Honestly, the dress underneath the royal blue, sleeveless blazer (I cannot believe I just typed royal blue, sleeveless blazer) would be fine by itself... The jacket and dress are both by 3.1 Phillip Lim. Just in case, y'all wanna run out and buy both. Also, if you don't think it looks that bad, please do me a favor and check out the picture in person in the magazine. It is much more horrifying in real life!

Fierce-ocity, Fierce-ociousness

Kath and Kim, Photo from Selma-Blair.com

I cannot wait to see this show!! If it is anywhere near as fierce as the costumes I have been seeing in pics online - Then it's gonna freakin' rule!! Check that overall ensemble on Selma! It is awe inspiring. If I could lose 60 pounds in the next month, I would totally rock that for Halloween!

Here's a link to the site I found the pic on: http://www.selma-blair.com/selma-blair/

He's a Daily Buzz. I'm a GMA.

Today, I woke up before my husband. This is a pretty rare occurrence as he is usually up and off to work before I can even get my eyes open. So, when I sat down with my first diet coke of the day, I turned on the tv to see that the Daily Buzz was on the channel it had been left on the night before. This is Hubby's favorite morning show. He watches it just about everyday before work. He talks about the people on the show like he knows them. He'll quote funny things they said later on in the day. He is such a little weirdo about it. He constantly tells me that "I just have to watch it," because I am more of a Good Morning America girl myself. Always have been. Always will be... So anyway, I watched the Buzz in Hubby's honor this morning. It wasn't bad, and he was shocked when he saw me watching it. He immediately started trying to warm me up to it by saying things like " Oh that (insert the blond girl's name here)! She's always busting out of her top!" He is clueless btw... I was glad today b/c I got to spend more time w/Hubby than usual. We even took British out for lunch together! (see above picture)

Keeping up With the Blogsons

Okay this is going to be sort of a long post, because it's been a few days since I posted an entry. On Thursday, British's Aunt Jenny came into town and stayed with us a couple of nights. It was great! British's eyes light up whenever he sees her. He says, "Jenny! Jenny! Jenny!"

So Thursday we went to The Dock for dinner (see above left picture) with Aunt Jenny, and on Friday we had lunch at Old Cuevas Bistro (see British and Aunt Jenny in photo at right) w/ Aunt Jenny. I love Old Cuevas Bistro. The food there is yummy!!

It is always great when Jenny comes to visit b/c she is so good with British. She is so awesome. I was gone running errands all Saturday morning. When I got home, she surprised me w/ a clean house! Thank you Aunt Jenny!

While Jen was down, we kept ourselves occupied by watching season one of the old 90210. She had never seen it! We also watched two of those beauty pageant documentaries that were on TLC last week. I know it's wrong, but they make me laugh and laugh and laugh... The parents of those kids are ridiculous!

The day after Jen left, British was running around the front of the house calling out "Jenny! Jenny!" like he thought she was going to come out and see him...

Today, British only primped up a little bit when I dropped him off at school. So, I decided to get him a little treat to celebrate. Lately, he has been fascinated by frogs. Whenever he sees one in the yard, he points and says "frog" with a serious little look on his face. So, when I picked him up from school today, I gave him a stuffed frog (see above picture).

Also, I have a new favorite Yankee Candle scent: Blueberry Scone! Yes, I'm a dork!!

Love the Shoes

Is it wrong to be so excited by a pair of shoes? Since the baby, I haven't been able to wear heels which I used to wear constantly. So now, I wear dowdy flats around all day or just wear sneakers. So, imagine my surprise when I actually found a cute pair of flats that are so comfortable that I could get off my lazy butt and run a marathon in them if I chose to do so (though need not worry about my ever doing that). So, anyway, behold the Prada Lifestyles Collection Scrunch Loafer (said in the voice of Zeus or James Earl Jones)!
BTW - Could I have possibly used the word "so" any more? "So" it's the new "like"!

My New Obsession

Okay, every year around this time I start to get mad because it is so hot, and I look for ways to fool myself into believing it is fall. Last year, I insisted Hubby and I sit on the back porch and drink hot apple cider w/ cinnamon sticks in 80 degree heat. This year I've moved on to candles...I've become obsessed w/ Frosted Pumpkin scent Yankee Candles. It smells like fall in a jar! I know. I'm a lame-o. But, sue me! So what if I like to kick back, listen to some Kenny G and light a candle! Okay, I don't really listen to Kenny G, but I think it's a just about equal offense!

Today, British cried again when I dropped him off for his toddler class. It makes me so sad. His teachers have told me that he's fine the minute I walk out the door, but it still upsets me...
