All the Pretty Things Thursday: Etsy Finds

Today, I thought I would share a few of my recent Etsy purchases. I recently rediscovered Etsy and have been spending way to much time on this particular website! For those of you who may not know about Etsy, it is a website where people buy and sell handmade items. And let me tell ya - some of these items are gorgeous! The following are just a few of the many "pretty things" I have found on there:

Love this Eiffel Tower print scarf. It retails for $21.00, and you can find it in Pretty Raccoon Clothing's store. I like it because it will go with all the charcoal and black in my Winter wardrobe! This seller has a ton of scarves and other items with pretty patterns.

I just received this Hand Stamped Dangle Birthstone Ring in the mail today, and it is beautiful. I got it with the initial B and British's birthstone. It is so pretty and very good quality. The seller, Kristen's Custom Creations , hand stamps all of the items, and they are like little works of art. At $37.90, I think this item was a bargain. Absolutely beautiful!

This is the Femme Fatale necklace by blinkingmouse. It retails for $35.10. I love the black and amethyst combination, and I think it will go great with all of my Winter clothes. I can't wait to see it in person!
If you haven't already, give Etsy a try! Etsy will make a perfect shopping destination for all of your Christmas gift giving needs!

A Helpful Hubby, A Date with a Rat, and A Fab Find - All in One Day!

Hubby Helps Out
I was up all night last night, because my back was killing me. So...Hubby got British ready and took him to school this morning. When I picked him up, this is what he was wearing:

Yep, a Christmas outfit and it's not even Halloween yet! Of course, it was sweet of Hubby to get him to school and let me sleep in...
British Loves the Rat!

Anyway, later today we decided to take British to Chuck E. Cheese for the first time. He loved it! Here are a few pics:

An Awesome Find If I Do Say So Myself!

Today, I decided I wanted to order some calling cards to have on hand just in case. I found a really cool site called the Mommy Card business cards for moms. The site sells really pretty calling cards that have your child's picture printed on them. I ordered a set of the "Kingston" style cards (the front and back of the example shown on the website is in the photos below).

New Boot Goofin'

Yes, the title is a reference to Reno 911. I couldn't resist! Anyway, British's Uggs came in this morning, and I tried them on him while he was still in his pajamas. He was so funny. He started stomping around and shuffling his feet. He loved having on boots. He kept shouting, "Boots"!

He loves dancing in his boots!

To Ugg or Not to Ugg - That is The Question

Every Fall, for the past four years, I have faithfully purchased a new pair of Uggs( or 2 new pairs depending on how cute the new styles were). Basically, I've been very pro-Ugg for the past four years. They're the type of shoe you either love or hate, and I've definitely been an Ugg love-ah!One year, I even bought Hubby a pair. Of course, he looked at me like I was nuts when I gave them to him and only wore them once or twice to please me. But even still, I remained an Ugg girl. Never questioning my undying "Ugg love"...until now.
This year I can't decide if I want to "Ugg" or not. I love the pair in the picture above, but I just don't know how often I'll wear them. Am I too old and out of shape to carry off Uggs any longer? Are Uggs so over that people will go "Argghh" over my Uggs? Will this style sell out everywhere before I am done writing this blog post?
In the end, I will probably buy the Ugg Women's Classic Cardy in Mulberry. But, I just thought I would let you in on my "complex, Ugg buying, decision making process."

However, I did order this pair (see below)for British while I was mulling over which pair I wanted for myself:

I think they'll look cute on him! He's definitely not too old for Uggs!

Monday Magazine Mania: Real Simple Family, Fall 2008

The Fall 2008 issue of Real Simple Family is a must read for a couple of reasons:

  1. The "Gift Guide" on pages 75 -81 has the most amazing, unique gift items for children of every age. The photo below is an an excerpt from page 77. I think British will be receiving that super cute fox toy sometime in the near future (maybe Christmas?). The great thing about this section is that it contains many items that I was previously unaware of. Since I'm a total shopaholic, that's pretty rare!
  2. I also enjoyed the "Report Card" section on pages 85 - 92. In this issue, they rate children's cds, cookie brands, and toothpaste. I especially liked the cd ratings, because I'm always looking for new cds for British and I to listen to in the car.

Tagged Again!

Brig @ The Heckathorn Family tagged me. I love her blog! Check it out!
7 random/weird facts about me (warning: some of these are more on the weird side...):
  1. I have to sleep in socks or I have trouble sleeping.
  2. I went to my first concert when I was 12. It was Hank Williams, Jr.
  3. Desperately Seeking Susan was the first PG-13 movie that I ever watched in the theatre. My dad took me to see it when I was 9.
  4. When I was 9, I also pulled out all of my eyelashes the week before school pictures. It is probably the best school picture I ever took, but if you look closely...
  5. I know all the words to "Naughty Girls Need Love Too" by S-S-Samantha Fox and I have performed it at a karaoke night or two.
  6. I went to London and Rome on my honeymoon.
  7. I hate beets.

I think I may have already done this one, so tag yourselves and let me know in the comment section. I don't wanna accidentally tag anyone twice for the same thing!:)

5 Favorite Friday: Scary Movies

In honor of Halloween, I am going to do 5 Favorite Fridays with scary/Halloweenish themes for the rest of the month of October. I even made a nifty little sign for today's post! (Yes, I am Mandy, Queen of the Dorks!) Anyway, Here is my list of 5 Favorite Scary Movies:

1. Rosemary's Baby - This is also one of my favorite movies of all time, but it is sooo scary. I made the mistake of watching it late one night when I was pregnant with British, and it totally freaked me out! Love everything about this movie. Love Rosemary's clothes. Love her apartment. Love the super weird dream/reality sequence with Jackie O on the boat. I just love it even though it scares me...

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street - It is by far the scariest of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, and it was Johnny Depp's first starring role. Sigh...Johnny Depp. I also always liked that weird gray streak that Heather Langenkamp gets in her hair.

3. House of a 1000 Corpses- This movie scared me nearly to death! My sister-in-law was over at my house the night we watched it, and she got so scared that she had to stay the night! It is the only movie on this list so scary that I'll never watch it again! I'm not even sure why I put it on the list...

4. What Lies Beneath - This is one of those movies that I will watch anytime it's on. It's just the right amount of scary with a dash of creepy added in. This is also what I like to call a "nice house/nice clothes" movie. A movie like this I'll watch just b/c I like the house or clothes in the movie. It's an added bonus w/ this one that I also love the plot. I love the welcome present Michelle Pfeiffer brings the new neighbors. Every time it gets to that part I always wish one of my neighbors would bring me a cute little basket w/ flowers and wine... Also, I love the girl that plays Michelle Pfeiffer's bff in the movie. She cracks me up. When they have the seance in the bathroom, it reminds me of something one of my friends and I would do.

5. 28 Days Later - This list would not be complete without a good zombie movie. I like them all, but I chose this one because it is shot in such a realistic manner. It is not hokey like a typical zombie movie, but instead it is gritty and real.

Please be sure and tell me your favorite scary movie in my comment section. Thanks for reading.

All the Pretty Things Thursday: the Black and White Edition

Here are a few pretty things...Enjoy!

Pictured above is the Black Sheep, White Sheep soap set by Gianna Rose Atelier. There is nothing like washing your hands w/ the wonderful smelling and beautiful soap made by this company. I have an owl shaped soap by them that is so pretty that it took me a couple of weeks before I actually started using it...I would go to wash my hands and say to myself, "No. Still too pretty. I'll just use the pump soap."I love the Sally Foster Hi-Gloss Black and White Gift Wrap Duet w/ Ribbon. I know a lot of you have kids that have to sell Sally Foster for school fundraisers, so I thought this would be a good all-occasion wrapping paper purchase. I bought it when my little guy was selling it earlier this month, and I can't wait to use it.
I have the Cat and Witch Silhouette Decorations hanging above my breakfast nook table as part of my Halloween decorations. They are part of the Martha Stewart Collection at Michael's Craft Store. Michael's has all kinds of really cute ideas for Halloween decor this year. Sometime soon I will try and post a couple of pictures of my Halloween decorations (most of which came from Michael's).

I'm a Fitness Failure, but My Boy Sure is Cute

Well, in the I'm going to get fit and start working out all the time department, today was a bust! I was planning to go to an aerobics class this morning at the gym I joined over the weekend, but I was up with British (pictured above) last night. He had sort of a bad night. Though, if I'm going to be honest here...not really bad enough to warrant me missing the class. Maybe I can get motivated to go workout this afternoon. Maybe... or Maybe I'll just weigh in at 190lbs forever! Ughhh!
Oh, about the picture. British loves to put on sunglasses. When he has them on, it's almost like he's putting on a show. He dances around and grins the whole time like he's being really sly! He jumps out from behind things and peek-a-boos me "secret agent style." I added this picture b/c it makes me happy even if I am a fitness failure!

Monday Magazine Mania: babycouture, Oct/Nov 2008

So, as you've probably guessed from the title, I've decided to set aside Mondays for all of my little magazine shout outs... We'll just see how long this lasts! Anyway, I love the magazine babycouture. It is wonderful. The theme of this month's issue is "The Ultimate Fashion Issue," and that is apparent from the second the front cover is opened! Babycouture is filled with fabulous baby and toddler fashion spreads and articles. For a fashion junkie like me (who can no longer wear adult couture b/c I'm still carrying the baby weight) this is absolute fashion heaven! The following are just a couple of hi-lights from the current issue:

This rockin' t-shirt by Rowdy Sprout (in picture at left) is just one of the stylish items featured on p. 16. Obviously, I featured this shirt because of my little Union Jack obsession...but I love The Who too!! My little man will definitely be sportin' this on the playground.

The cute as a button outfit on page 55 of the magazine featured on the Suri-looking child at left (I think little Suri is so cute!) made me wish for a little girl to dress up!

Anyway, run out and get this issue while you can! Here's a link to their site just in case...

I Need it, I Want It!

Okay, I don't really need it. But, I do want it!! I've been dying for a cute retro phone to put on my bedside table. You know. So, I can lounge in bed in a fabulous silk dressing gown, and gab all day long to all my friends without a care in the world! (List that under things that will not be happening in this lifetime!) But, I think I finally found the right one at Pottery Barn! Oh, how I love "the barn"!
Pictured above is the "PB Grand Phone", it comes in black ($59) and metal ($79).

Manners and the 19 Month Old Boy

British under a table at
a Disney World restaurant.

When it comes to manners, my 19 month old does not seem to possess them in the least. There isn't a restaurant table he won't stand on (or get under)! There's not a food he won't throw! There's not a surface he won't wipe snot on! Then of course there is the fact that he is a 19 month old...
But even with his young age, I have managed to teach him a couple of things:

1. When he really wants something, he'll remember to say please. Of course, this isn't as good as always saying please, but I'll take what I can get!

2. He greets people. That little guy will say hello and goodbye to anyone. Of course, he continues saying it until he gets an answer back , but I still consider this progress.

Some of you may think I'm sort of an over-zealous mother to already consider "the manners dilemma" at this young of an age. So, imagine how happy I was to find this little gem on my dashboard this morning: Teaching Toddlers Manners .There's a good article over at Blissfully Domestic today on Teaching Toddlers Manners! Check it out!

Beautiful Clothes, Beautiful Model, Yucky Presentation

I am so out of luck if the "no pants look" is in this Fall! But seriously, the blouse, bag, and shoes are gorgeous! They just look silly on "pants less Joan". I would like this ad much better if the model had one hand over her mouth with an "oops, you caught me!" look on her face. But I guess that just wouldn't be fierce enough for YSL, and that is totally understandable...

*I found this ad in the October 2008 issue of Vogue.

Disney Diary 2008: All About British!

Okay, let me first take a quick, much needed deep breath, because I have been going non-stop since Friday! In case you all out in the blog-a-sphere don't know, I've been on vacation to Disney for the past few days. We had an absolute blast. Seriously, much love to Hubby for planning the trip for us. We arrived at our hotel, Animal Kingdom Lodge, at about 11p.m. Friday night. The flight out was wonderfully uneventful (just a little bit of foreshadowing here...). When we got to the room, we were impressed by all the cool little "Disney details." For example, there was a pretty Lion King tile display in the bathroom.

We stayed in a special section of Animal Kingdom lodge called the Villas. The room had a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. The balcony overlooked the animal savanna. Having a savanna view was by far the best part of the hotel experience. It was magical. Seriously, I had to pry myself away from the view to go to the parks. We could see everything from giraffes to zebras and all kinds of exotic birds right outside our hotel room. British loved it (see photo, above center).

On Saturday, we spent the entire day at the Magic Kingdom, because it has the most age appropriate rides for British. He was a little dazed at first and had a "what the h---?" look on his face for most of the morning. But, by the afternoon, he had gotten into the swing of things and was loving it! A Magic Kingdom hi-light for British was Aladdin's Flying Carpet. He liked it when the camel spit on Hubby (I thought it was pretty funny too). He also loved Pirate's of the Caribbean. His eyes were as big as saucers the whole time and he kept saying, "Wowwww!" Wow is one of his new favorite words. He says it often and in the cutest, tiniest voice.
On Sunday, we spent the morning at the Magic Kingdom (we missed the character spot at Mickey's Toontown Fair the day before) and the rest of the day at my favorite, Epcot! I have loved the World Showcase Pavilion ever since I was a little girl. I still love it, and I could have spent the entire trip walking around it. But this trip was not about me! It was all about British (as it should be)!! British loved the Maelstrom ride at the Norway pavilion, The Seas with Nemo and Friends, and Ellen's Energy Adventure. I was a little iffy about taking him on the Maelstrom and dinosaur ride (Ellen's Energy Adventure), but he loved it. He is one brave little guy.
The Food and Wine Festival was going on at Epcot. So, Hubby and I rolled British around the World Showcase leisurely sampling wine from other countries while British napped in the stroller. It was so nice and relaxing...We had dinner that night at Tokyo Dining in Japan. British loved it, because his child's meal came out in a plate shaped like the monorail. When he saw it, he said, "Choo! Choooo!"

Monday was the last day of our visit, and we saved Animal Kingdom for that day. We had to leave for the plane by 4 p.m., so we didn't get to see as much of it as we would have liked. But, what we did see was great! We made it to the live action Festival of the Lion King show. British was in awe over it. He just stared at all the animals saying, "wow" over and over again... We also managed to go to a character breakfast at the Tusker House Restaurant. We even had a chance to ride the Kilimanjaro Safari, Triceratops Spin, and It's Tough to Be a Bug. It's Tough to Be a Bug (a 3-D movie with lots of bug action) was the only thing that scared British the entire time. British did not particularly like it when a bug was supposed to have stung him! He didn't scream or anything. He just took off the 3-D glasses and covered his face for a minute. He refused to put the 3-D glasses back on. He is one tough little dude!

The only bad experience that we had the entire trip was on the flight home. The plane's air conditioner was broken which led to British screaming and crying because he was miserable. His face was bright red. I was scared for the little guy, because it was so hot. Of course we were late to our connecting flight and had to make a run for it in the huge Atlanta airport. Overall, the trip was great. And anyway, just think, how boring life would be if you didn't have to make a run for it every now and then...

I've always been a little goofy!

Annnnd We're Off!!

In just a couple of hours we will be embarking on our vacation to Disney World. It will be British's (pictured above and below in photos I just took a minute ago) first time going and his first plane trip! I hope he behaves on the plane. Keep your fingers crossed for me! I'll put up a huge post filled with pics and every tiny, minute detail of our trip when we get back.

My Little Picasso!

A couple of weeks ago British started attending toddler classes, and I was so excited when he brought home his first masterpiece (see above photo)!! However, I was unhappy when I learned that magnets don't stick to the front of my stainless steel fridge. So, I had to stick his picture on the side of the fridge where I can barely see it!:( I immediately went out and bought a magnet board at Office Depot to hang in my kitchen (see photo below). Now, I can display even more of his little drawings. Do these count as "shrines" too? Also, the top bee in the photo below was drawn by Hubby, and I answered w/ the bottom bee...:) Awww. We're so sweet it's sickening!!

Your Kid Got Stinky Feet? Just Botox Those Puppies! (Just Kidding...)

So, yesterday I read "Kiddie Botox - Lies, Says Stone's Attorney! " on perezhilton.com . Apparently, Sharon Stone's attorney has his panties in a wad, b/c some judge claimed that Sharon Stone wanted to Botox her kid's feet (because they stink)! Anyway, according to Mr. Attorney, she never wanted to do Botox her little guy's feet.
Well, I have to admit that when I read this article I had just a little glimmer of a thought at the periphery of my mind...Sort of like: Oh, you can do that? Now, obviously the whole point of the article was to say that Sharon Stone never wanted to something so reprehensible in the first place, and let's also make it clear that I would never Botox any part of British's body...But his feet get awful stinky when he wears Crocs without socks!
So, I snooped around on the web and found an article on ehow.com entitled, "How to Eliminate Foot Odor" by DrJewell. Basically, what I got from the article is that from now on I should just sprinkle a little talcum powder in his Crocs before he puts them on. So, voila! Botox isn't necessary!
What kind of world are we living in where people are even speculating that someone would want to give their child Botox for a condition as trifling as stinky feet?

Tag, I'm It!!

Lisa tagged me. Actually, I sort of tagged myself!- That sounds a little dirty!;) Anyway, long story short, here are the tag rules:

The Rules
1. Link the person who tagged you
2. Mention the rules on your blog
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours
4. Tag 6 fellow bloggers by linking them
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged bloggers blogs letting them know they have been tagged.

Okay 6 unspectacular quirks...Seeing as I have loads of spectacular ones, this is might be a little tricky!

1. I must have my own music playing when I drive. I will not listen to music stations on the radio. I just won't do it! I like to be in control of what is being played...Yeah, I'm a little control freakish! However, I'll listen to talk radio in a heart beat!
2. I like to have a DVD on when I am falling asleep. It can only be a sitcom DVD where I know the plot really well (i.e. Friends, Seinfeld, etc...). I can't fall asleep if I don't know how a show will end!
3. I have to check all doors leading to the outside multiple times before I can get in bed for the night. Since there are 4 doors leading outside this can be time consuming at times...
4. If I get fast food when I'm by myself, I will almost always just drive around and eat it before I get home.
5. If I have any kind of appt. scheduled for the day, I input it into my treo, and I write it on my hand the night before. So, it's not uncommon for me to wake up w/ something written backwards in faded ink all over the side of my face.
6. If I drink anything in a glass, it must have ice. However, I'm fine drinking straight out of the can or bottle, but once it leaves the can or bottle...

Okay, tag you're it! I'm going to tag 2 people myself, and if anyone else wants to do it, leave a comment. The first 4 who comment are tagged.

Awesome Idea

Check out June Cleaver Nirvana (here's the link: http://www.junecleavernirvana.com/ ). She had a post yesterday called "It is not me, it is you...LINK HERE NOW". She wants other bloggers to put a link to their favorite post on her site. I thought that was really nice, and she has links to all sorts of other "mom blogs."

The "Shriner's Club"

Aaaah, the "Shriner's Club"... And no, in case you're wondering, I don't mean the club for old men with tiny hats and tassels! I'm talking about Moms, like me, who display way too many pictures of their kids in their homes. Looking around my house today, I all of a sudden felt like I was living in the British Museum. House de British...

I've known for a while that I've been developing a little problem. I'd put out yet another picture, hear the slight "not another one" groan emit from Hubby and I'd know: This is getting a little weird!

Oh, it started innocently enough. I artfully (so I thought) arranged a group of pictures on the desk in the sun room. Then, a couple of months later, I put the new batch of portraits on top of the entertainment center in the sun room. Well, the first year of British's life I had his portrait made every two months. So, yeah...my house is covered.

I was discussing this with one of my friends recently and she said, "You know what I do? I put the new pictures in the same frames over the old pictures." I could tell she thought this was a helpful little bit of info. And it would be... if she were talking to a normal person. But all I could think was, "Blasphemer! Cover a picture of British! Over my dead body!"

Anyway, they say the first step to kicking a habit is admitting you have a problem. So, here goes nothin'!
Hello, my name is Mandy, and my house is a shrine to my child...

Did I mention I haven't put out his Summer portraits yet?
